Inspired by the classic tale The Ugly Duckling, Bird’s Journey is a multicultural, interactive performance that follows a baby bird’s path to discovering its unique identity in a diverse world. This story becomes a metaphor for our own search for belonging and self-worth within Singapore’s rich cultural tapestry.
Â
Led by Dr. Tan, whose artistic practice is rooted in cross-cultural collaboration and musical inclusivity, the performance is both a celebration of heritage and a reflection on contemporary identity. The baby bird’s transformation mirrors Dr. Tan’s own exploration of multiculturalism and the role of traditional music in modern society.Â
Â
Students will experience an immersive musical theatre piece enriched with cultural context, live demonstrations, and moments for reflection. The performance also includes an interactive segment where students try playing bird flutes, deepening their connection with the art form through hands-on participation
