The Dizi is a traditional Chinese bamboo flute known for its bright, expressive tone and distinctive buzzing sound, produced by a special membrane called the dimo. Commonly heard in Chinese festivals, operas, and folk music, it plays an important role in Chinese cultural heritage and is also used in modern music today.

In this hands-on workshop, students will explore how the Dizi produces sound through breathing and basic finger techniques. They will learn to produce clear tones, apply the dimo, and play simple melodies. Through guided practice and group activities, students will develop pitch, rhythm, airflow control, and ensemble skills, while gaining an appreciation of the Dizi’s cultural significance and the diversity of music in Singapore.
