A vibrant multicultural drum performance that takes students on a powerful rhythmic journey across Singapore’s diverse cultures. Through traditional percussion instruments and dynamic drumming styles, this programme shows how rhythm transcends language, race, and background—connecting us all.
Â
Students will be introduced to the rich sounds of:
Chinese drums such as the Tanggu, known for their powerful resonance
Malay drums including the kompang and gendang, commonly played at festive celebrations
Indian drums like the mridangam and dhol, along with other auxiliary percussion instruments rich in rhythm and storytelling
Â
Students will gain insight into how different communities use drums for ceremonies, festivals, and storytelling. An interactive segment invites students to clap, move, and respond to rhythms together, encouraging active participation and appreciation of diversity through shared energy and beat.
